President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met on Monday with the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, at the State House in Abuja. The governor arrived shortly after 4 pm and was escorted to the President’s office by the President’s Chief of Staff, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.

The closed-door meeting comes amid speculation that Governor Yusuf, elected on the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) platform, may defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Earlier, NNPP national leader Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso dismissed reports suggesting he approved or endorsed any defection by Governor Yusuf, insisting that no such consent was given.

Political observers note that discussions around the alleged defection have been ongoing for weeks, with sources indicating that disagreements—such as whether the governor would receive an automatic ticket for the 2027 elections—may have stalled talks.

The speculation has reportedly heightened tensions between some of Governor Yusuf’s supporters and loyalists of Kwankwaso. Details of the meeting are expected to be disclosed later.
