The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the death of popular Afro-Fuji singer, Adesina Afeez, widely known as Destiny Boy.
The police confirmed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for a thorough investigation.
In a statement on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Babaseyi Oluseyi, said investigations had commenced into the death of the 22-year-old artiste, adding that one suspect is currently in custody.
News of Destiny Boy’s death emerged on Sunday after videos showing his body being conveyed to a mortuary circulated on social media, sparking widespread grief and speculation over the cause of death.
In a separate video, an unidentified associate of the singer claimed that Destiny Boy had been battling a health challenge before his death.
Born Afeez Adeshina, Destiny Boy began his music career at a young age and rose to fame in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song If. He was also known for covers of songs by Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice and Small Doctor, and released several tracks including Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan and Lowkey.
The police said further updates would be provided as investigations continue.
