A Rivers State High Court has barred the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi, from receiving or acting on any correspondence from the Rivers State House of Assembly regarding attempts to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu.
The ruling, delivered by Justice F. A. Fiberesima of the High Court in Oyibo Local Government Area, followed separate suits filed by the governor and his deputy (Suit Nos. OYHC/7/CS/2026 and OYHC/6/CS/2026).
The court’s interim orders also restrained the Speaker of the House, Mr. Martin Amaewhule, and 32 others—including the Clerk of the House—from taking any steps toward the impeachment process. Justice Amadi is barred for seven days from receiving, forwarding, or acting on any communication related to constituting a panel to investigate alleged misconduct.
The court granted leave for the orders to be served on all defendants, including the Chief Judge, and adjourned the matter to January 23, 2026, for further hearing.
