A 41-year-old Nigerian man, Mr. Ubong Uwak, has come under heavy criticism online after he was seen actively seeking a new romantic partner on Facebook while his late wife, Ediye, is still lying in the mortuary pending her burial on August 1, 2025.
Mr. Uwak, who described himself as a “God-fearing widower,” made a public post on July 9 in a Facebook group called God Fearing Singles, stating:
“God-fearing faithfuls. I’m Ubong Uwak from Nigeria 41yrs, Widower, no kids yet hoping to have someday. Let’s praise God together. Feel free to message. New here. I need a God-fearing sister.”
However, his declaration of having no children contradicts a touching birthday tribute he made to his wife earlier this year on February 21, where he referred to her as “the mother of my kids.”
The old post read in part:
“She’s beautiful,
She’s lovely,
She is a business woman
Very honest
She’s sweet
The mother of my kids…
Happy birthday Ediye… Daddy loves you.”
His recent post mourning his late wife, shared on July 20 — just 11 days after his dating profile appeared — added a layer of confusion and controversy. In it, he emotionally wrote:
“Princess I can’t still place my hands on what happened. But God will avenge your death… God be with you till we meet again. I will love you till eternity. Rest on.”
The apparent inconsistency in Mr. Uwak’s narrative, coupled with the timing of his search for a new partner while publicly grieving his wife, has sparked widespread debate on social media — with many questioning the sincerity of his mourning, while others argue he is simply seeking healing and companionship in his own way.
The late Mrs. Ediye is scheduled to be laid to rest on August 1, 2025.
