Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has condemned what he described as a “blatant act of trespass” and an “assault on the rule of law” following reports of fresh illegal activity on a disputed property in Ikeja, Lagos.

The property, which belongs to Next Foods Limited — a company owned by Obi’s younger brother, Ndibe Obi — is at the centre of a legal dispute after it was allegedly demolished based on a controversial possession order obtained by a trespasser.

According to Obi, the matter is now in court. However, he disclosed that the same individual responsible for the initial demolition has returned under the cover of darkness to erect a fence, allegedly in a bid to divide the land into two.

“The secrecy and desperation surrounding this act speak volumes. It reeks of impunity and appears to be a calculated move to further complicate the ongoing legal proceedings,” Obi stated.

He called the move “a direct assault on the rule of law” but expressed confidence in the judiciary’s ability to address the issue fairly and without delay.

“Fortunately, the matter is now before the court. We trust that justice will not only be done, but be seen to be done swiftly, decisively, and in full accordance with the law,” he added.

The case highlights growing concerns around property rights enforcement and judicial manipulation in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
