Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested a 31-year-old man, Joshua Osaigbovo, for allegedly killing his 21-year-old girlfriend, Osato Festus Edogiaweria, and burying her in a shallow grave.

The tragic incident occurred during Osato’s first visit to Osaigbovo’s residence in the Iyanomon community of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area. She was declared missing in April 2025, prompting an investigation that eventually led police to the suspect.

According to Edo Police spokesperson, Moses Joel Yamu, the case began when the victim’s mother, Mrs. Ojo, filed a missing person report at Aduwawa Police Division on April 25, 2025.

“Through a combination of detailed investigation and technical intelligence, operatives from the Family Unit apprehended Joshua Osaigbovo on June 18, 2025,” Yamu said in an official statement.

During interrogation, Osaigbovo confessed to inviting Osato to his home on April 27. He claimed an argument broke out between them, during which she fell, hit her head, and died.

He further admitted to transporting her body in a wheelbarrow to a nearby bush, where he buried her in a shallow grave just meters from his residence. On June 20, the suspect led officers to the burial site, where the remains were exhumed in accordance with legal procedures.

Police say Osaigbovo will be charged to court once investigations are finalized.
