The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has addressed growing concerns and misinformation surrounding the proposed delineation of wards in the Warri Federal Constituency, clarifying that no final decision has been made yet.
In a press release issued on Thursday, April 10, 2025, the Commission responded to “misleading narratives” about the redrawing of electoral boundaries in Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South West, following a Supreme Court judgment delivered on December 2, 2022.
The statement, signed by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information & Voter Education Committee, noted that extensive consultations were conducted from February 2023 to July 2024. These consultations involved key stakeholders and included fieldwork across affected communities, culminating in a draft report on the proposed delineation.
Further engagement with stakeholders occurred last Friday, April 4, 2025, in Warri, where copies of the draft report were distributed for review and feedback. According to INEC, this was part of its broader effort to ensure a fair and inclusive process, aiming for a resolution agreed upon by all involved parties.
INEC emphasized that the process is ongoing, and urged all stakeholders to submit their observations on the draft report to guide further discussions.
“Contrary to the speculations making the rounds, the Commission is yet to take a final decision on the delineation of Wards in the Warri Federal Constituency,” the statement read.
The Commission also called on stakeholders to avoid actions that could jeopardize peace and security in the region, reaffirming its commitment to fairness, equity, and the rule of law throughout the process.
The ward delineation exercise is expected to significantly impact political representation and resource allocation in the Warri Federal Constituency.
