Chief Bode George, former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), labeling it as lacking a solid political structure and describing it as a “one-man show.”
In an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Wednesday, George dismissed the APC’s political setup while discussing the potential emergence of a third political force, such as the Social Democratic Party (SDP), ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The APC has no structure; it’s just a one-man show,” George stated.
He emphasized that any viable political alternative must focus on serving the people, rather than personal ambitions. “What should come first is the people. Then, our approach to managing the country’s resources for their benefit. Individualism can never solve this. Personal ambition is a dangerous and misguided approach to problem-solving,” he added.
According to George, political leadership should prioritize the collective will of the people. “You must give in to something and allow fresh perspectives from the minds of the people. Governance is about them; power should be derived from them.”
PDP to Address Internal Crisis at Next NEC Meeting
George also addressed the ongoing internal crisis within the PDP, expressing confidence that the party’s issues would be resolved at its upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
“This problem started as a small issue, but now it’s like a cancer that keeps spreading. It began with the unchecked ambitions of individuals; this didn’t start yesterday,” he remarked.
He explained that the PDP has a structured process for resolving internal conflicts, saying, “The day we have the next NEC meeting, we’ll resolve our issues. Too many people have been interpreting the party’s positions, laws, and constitution to serve their personal interests.”
George stressed that the NEC meeting would provide a platform for candid discussions and deliberations. “I believe that when we meet, we will argue, discuss, and debate. Ultimately, we will reach a unanimous decision, centered on the principles established by the party’s founding fathers. Those who disagree are free to leave and join another party.”
The PDP leader also warned that the party must take decisive action against those causing unrest. He cautioned that failure to resolve the issues at the next NEC meeting could spell the end for the party. “If we don’t resolve this at the next NEC meeting, that’s the end,” he concluded.
