The Chairman of the Niger State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, officiated a mass wedding for 21 couples at St. Mark Catholic Church in Nsanji Nkoso, Magama Local Government Area of Niger State.
Yohanna emphasized that without the church’s blessing, couples are merely cohabiting. He encouraged the couples, particularly Catholics, to make their unions official.
The 21 couples had already completed their traditional marriage rites, including bride price payments, and underwent three months of marriage counseling. The oldest couple had been married for 24 years, and the youngest for one year.
One couple, Mr. and Mrs. Cyprian Uche, who had been cohabiting for 22 years, expressed their joy in receiving the church’s blessing. Mrs. Uche, a member of the women’s fellowship, said her new status allowed her to hold positions in the fellowship.
