The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results for the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External. This examination was held from November 14 to December 14, 2024.
In a press briefing at NECO headquarters in Minna on Friday, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, NECO’s Registrar and Chief Executive, shared that 86,067 candidates registered for the exam, with 84,799 sitting for it.
Wushishi reported that 57,114 candidates (67.35%) earned five or more credits, including in English Language and Mathematics.
He also revealed that out of the 83,220 candidates who sat for English Language, 62,929 (75.62%) earned credits or higher. For Mathematics, 83,024 candidates participated, and 77,988 (93.93%) received credits or higher.
Additionally, 70,711 candidates (83.39%) earned five credits or more, irrespective of English and Mathematics.
On the issue of exam malpractice, Wushishi highlighted a decrease in malpractice cases, with 6,160 candidates implicated, compared to 8,518 in 2023, a 27.7% reduction. He further noted that seven exam supervisors, including those from Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, Cross River, and Ebonyi states, were recommended for blacklisting due to malpractice facilitation. Fourteen examination centers, including 10 in Ogun and four in Oyo states, were also blacklisted for widespread malpractice across nine subjects.
Candidates can now access their results on the NECO website at www.neco.gov.ng by using their registration number.
Prof. Wushishi expressed gratitude to the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, and the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, for their support throughout the examination process.
