Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced that the state will supply 70 million gallons of potable water daily upon the completion of the second phase of the Adiyan Water Works.

Speaking during an inspection of the project in Ogun state, Sanwo-Olu disclosed that construction has reached 80 percent completion, with about 70 to 75 percent of the necessary equipment already on site.

“Adiyan II is meant to produce 70 million gallons per day, and from the inspection today, it’s about 80 percent completed,” he said.

The governor explained that the ongoing work includes electromagnetic and electromechanical installations, with raw water being sourced from the Ogun River through pipelines laid to Akute.

He expressed confidence that the project would be completed within the next 10 to 12 months, significantly improving the water supply across Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu commended the contractors and host communities for their cooperation, highlighting that compensation had been paid to affected residents by both the Lagos and Ogun State governments.

“The locals are as happy as we are because there’s full restitution,” he said.

The governor acknowledged that significant work remains, especially in enhancing water transmission and building additional capacity.

“The job is not finished yet. It’s another promise kept, although delayed. It will be a project Lagosians will be proud of, as it will improve the economy and living conditions in Lagos.”
Emphasising the government’s responsibility to provide potable water, Sanwo-Olu said: “Water is one critical component that the government must provide, and we are happy that Adiyan II will live up to that responsibility.”

He also revealed plans to extend pipelines across the Lagos Lagoon to improve water distribution to areas such as Ikoyi, Lekki, and Lagos Island.
