The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld the January 18, 2018 ruling by Justice Abdu Kafarati of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which proscribed the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and classified it as a terrorist organization.
In a unanimous judgment delivered on Thursday, a three-judge panel of the appellate court ruled that the federal government acted within the law in proscribing the group, whose activities were deemed a threat to the nation’s unity and the safety of its citizens.
Justice Hamma Barka, delivering the lead judgment, dismissed IPOB’s appeal, ruling it as lacking merit.
