The Nigeria Police Force has apprehended 130 suspects in connection with “high-level” cybercrimes, including 113 foreign nationals—87 men and 26 women—from China and Malaysia.
According to a statement on Sunday from Force Spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi, the arrests also include 17 Nigerian collaborators.
The suspects were detained during a coordinated raid on a building in the Next Cash and Carry area of Jahi in the Federal Capital Territory, where they were allegedly using computers and advanced devices to carry out their criminal activities.
Adejobi stated, “The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 130 suspects, including 113 foreign nationals primarily of Chinese and Malaysian origin, and their 17 Nigerian partners, for alleged involvement in cybercrimes, hacking, and activities threatening national security.”
The operation was led by Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 7, AIG Benneth Igweh, on Saturday, November 3, 2024, involving officers from the Nigeria Police Force Zone 7 Command and the National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC).
The police are currently analyzing evidence seized from the suspects. Adejobi added, “We are investigating the matter and scientifically examining the recovered exhibits. The suspects will be charged in court once our investigations are complete. We will keep the public informed about the progress of our investigations.”
