Former Chelsea manager José Mourinho has lauded Victor Osimhen’s season-long loan move from Napoli to Galatasaray, describing it as a brilliant acquisition for both the Turkish Super Lig and the Istanbul club.
Mourinho praised Osimhen’s exceptional talent, stating, “Osimhen is a great player. If I were at a club with €70-75 million to spend, I would sign him. I have a very good relationship with him, though I’m not fond of how often he goes down during matches.”
He emphasized that Osimhen’s skill set makes him a game-changer for any team. Mourinho’s admiration for Osimhen is rooted in their past interactions during Mourinho’s tenure at AS Roma, including a memorable sideline exchange with the Napoli striker.
Mourinho once compared Osimhen to Didier Drogba, which deeply resonated with the Nigerian forward. Osimhen expressed his appreciation for Mourinho’s praise, saying, “Hearing such a compliment from Mourinho in the middle of the game was an amazing feeling. Coming from someone like him—arguably the best in the world—was incredibly motivating.”
Although Osimhen has yet to debut for Galatasaray, he made an immediate impact with the Super Eagles, scoring in Nigeria’s 3-0 victory over Benin Republic—his first goal since January. As he returns to Istanbul, the 25-year-old striker will be keen to continue his impressive form and make a significant impact in Turkey.
