The Toronto Police have arrested Canadian-Nigerian Amaka Sonnberger for threatening a mass killing of Nigerians in Canada.
The Toronto Police Service released a statement titled “Suspected Hate-Motivated Threat Investigation, Woman Arrested,” confirming the arrest and providing details about the ongoing case.
Sonnberger made threats in a TikTok virtual meeting, allegedly planning to poison members of the Yoruba and Benin communities.
She faces charges of uttering threats and will appear before a judge at the Ontario Court of Justice.
The Toronto Police Hate Crime Unit is handling the investigation, treating it as a suspected hate-motivated offense.
The statement reads: “Toronto Police have arrested a woman in connection with a suspected hate-motivated threat investigation. This follows a report received on August 28, 2024, about threatening content posted online by Amaka Sonnberger, 46, of Toronto, around August 25, 2024. The threats targeted specific members of the Nigerian community.
“Sonnberger was taken into custody on September 1, 2024, and charged with uttering threats. She is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, September 2, 2024, at the Ontario Court of Justice, 2201 Finch Avenue West.
“The investigation is being treated as a suspected hate-motivated offense. Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.”
