President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio has urged Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike to ignore criticisms from Senator Ireti Kingibe and stay focused on delivering infrastructure projects.
He said this at the flagging off ceremony for the Kugbo Bus Terminal.
Akpabio acknowledged the inevitable scrutiny public figures face, stating, “A lot of people will say things. I saw a legislator on television mentioning that she was not carried along. Well, she is a member of the Senate, and when a decision is taken, she is bound by that decision. Please ignore every distraction and be rest assured that no matter what you do, not everyone will praise you. Others will still try to find fault.”
He commended Wike’s transformative efforts in upgrading transportation networks, constructing neglected roads, and developing state-of-the-art facilities.
Wike emphasized the administration’s commitment to inclusivity: “The administration of Mr. President is not just for the elites or those who can afford it but for people who cannot afford it.”
Highlighting the impact of the new bus terminal, Wike said, “With the kind of rainfall today, many people cannot be on the road waiting for taxis or buses. They have to go back to their homes and may miss work. But when this bus terminal is completed, you will have access regardless of the weather. You can safely identify your transport and reach your destination, reducing ‘one chance’ incidents where unsuspecting commuters are kidnapped.”
Wike further stated, “A great city provides basic infrastructure. Until now, Abuja has lacked proper public transportation. With the directives from Mr. President, I believe that in the next twelve to thirteen months, we will see a significant improvement in FCT’s transportation system.”
