INEC to display voters register for Edo, Ondo elections

The Independent Nations Electoral Commission on Tuesday held its regular weekly meeting to review preparations for the upcoming Edo and Ondo governorship elections, focusing on the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in the two states, which was suspended on June 9, 2024.

In a statement by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, INEC said it will display the voter register for public claims and objections for a period of seven days, starting from Wednesday, June 12, as outlined by Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022, is to display the voter register for public claims and objections for a period of seven days, starting from Wednesday, June 12, 2024.

This display will be conducted across all 395 wards in the two states and will also be accessible online at [https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/register](https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/register). The public is encouraged to review the register to identify any ineligible persons and file objections by completing Forms EC2 and EC3, available from officials at all centers.

Additionally, fresh registrants and applicants seeking transfers, corrections of personal details, and replacements of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) can report any errors or wrong entries for corrective action.

At the end of the claims and objections period, the Commission will clean up the register using the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) before adding new voters to the existing register for Edo and Ondo states.

Statistics from the CVR, as of June 9, 2024, indicate a total of 269,992 new voters in the two states. Of this number, 129,246 (47.87%) are male, while 140,756 (52.13%) are female. The majority of registered voters, 182,541 (67.61%), are youths aged 18-34. In terms of occupation, 95,463 (35.36%) are students, and 1,588 (0.59%) are Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). Additionally, there were 24,454 requests for PVC replacements, 74,493 applications for voter transfers, and 8,314 for information updates.

The Commission emphasizes that these figures are preliminary. Final figures will be published on a state-by-state basis after the claims/objections period and ABIS processing. The commencement date for the collection of new PVCs will be announced subsequently.
