The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday commenced the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) process in Edo and Ondo States.
A statement obtained by Daily Review Online and signed by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner & Chairman,
Information and Voter Education Committee said the exercise is taking place across 397 centres in the two states.
As a result of the recent destruction of it’s office in Edo, the INEC Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area office, situated at 16 Custom Road, off Benin/Auchi Road, Benin City, has been designated as a registration center. This relocation was necessitated by the flooding of the State Headquarters due to heavy rains last Friday.
To ensure seamless access to the registration centers, INEC has shared detailed information, including names and addresses of the centers, with stakeholders. Simultaneously, this information has been uploaded to their official website and social media platforms.
In a bid to make the registration process even more accessible, INEC has introduced an innovative online locator system. Interested individuals can simply send an SMS to a dedicated number (09136913660) with their State, Local Government Area, and Ward details. In return, they will receive the precise address of the center along with a Google map for directions. Alternatively, registrants can visit the dedicated website for the registration center locator.
A concise graphic outlining the registration procedure has been made available on the INEC website and social media channels to guide applicants through the process.
The Commission has issued a fervent appeal to all eligible citizens in Edo and Ondo States who are not yet registered voters to take advantage of this opportunity. Additionally, individuals seeking to transfer their registration from other states or within the states, as well as those requiring replacements for lost or damaged Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs), are encouraged to utilize the registration centers.
Furthermore, INEC has announced that uncollected PVCs will be available for collection at the registration centers upon presentation of Temporary Voters’ Cards (TVCs) by registered voters in person. Proxy collection of cards will not be permitted to ensure the integrity of the process.
In conclusion, the Commission urges eligible citizens to register promptly and avoid a last-minute rush. This call to action underscores the importance of active participation in the electoral process for the consolidation of democratic governance.
