Jose Mourinho will need to beat Cagliari to keep his job as Roma manager, according to reports in Italy.
The Serie A side have had a tough start to the season, with his side currently 13th in the league.
The Italian outfit have won their last two games, securing a 4-0 win over Servette in the Europa League and beating Frosinone 2-0 in the league before that.
However, they are already 10 points behind league leaders Inter Milan in Serie A after a slow start, losing three times and drawing twice.
This weekend’s opponents have lost four of their last five fixtures and sit bottom of Serie A and reports suggest Mourinho’s job is on the line in his pursuit of all three points.
According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, club president Dan Friedkin is ready to sack Mourinho if his side don’t win against the newly-promoted club.
A successor has reportedly been earmarked should the ex-Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United manager be relieved of his duties before the international break.
Former Hoffenheim and Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick is said to be Friedkin’s first choice.
Before this season, Mourinho had led Roma to successive European finals during his first two seasons in Rome.
He first guided the Serie A giants to victory over Feyenoord in the 2022 Europa Conference League final before reaching the Europa League final for the second time in their history the year after.
They then lost on penalties to Sevilla.
Mourinho has been at Roma since May 2021, less than a month after he was sacked by Tottenham.
The 60-year-old has a track record of results going downhill in his third season at football clubs.
It was the same tale for his first and second spell at Chelsea, his time at Real Madrid and Old Trafford too.
