Super Falcons fitness coach Kyle Quigley says that he will assess the team’s fitness and vigour over the weekend.

The Super Falcons are currently in Australia as they prepare for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

The tournament will take place from July 20 to August 20.

In a video posted on the NFF Twitter handle, Quigley said he was excited to have sessions with the Nigerian team.

“That is something I have to find out for myself, I have never met the group before,” Quigley said

“So integration, see where they are, today I’m observing and from the weekend I’ll have my sessions with the team and I’ll assess them from there.

“Of course I am excited, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity, the World Cup it doesn’t get any bigger in Women’s football.

“I’m very excited, I’ve been told lots of stories how good they are, how good the group is.”

The Super Falcons are in Group B alongside hosts team Australia, Republic of Ireland and Canada.

The Nigerian team are the only African team to participate at every FIFA Women’s World Cup since its inaugural edition in China 1991.

This morning, the NFF announced that 18 players took part in the first training at Gold Coast Sports Centre as the Super Falcons step up their preparation for the world cup.

New arriving Gift Monday, Esther Okoronkwo & Tochukwu Oluehi were duly rested to account for jet lag and to allow acclimatization.

Over this coming weekend, new Super Falcons physical trainer Kyle Quigley intends to start accessing the physical fitness status of the players.

“Today I’m observing,” he said. “And from the weekend I’ll have my sessions with the team and I’ll assess (their levels of fitness) from there.”

Left to me, the way the NFF has managed this final phase of preparations has been farcical. How come the Physical fitness trainer will be assessment the fitness of the team just 12 days before their tournament curtain raiser against Canada? Who does that?

Anyway, let me stop ranting and continue with my article.

Nigeria hope to step up their planning and strategizing for the task ahead in the coming days with Waldrum already mapping out approach to help overcome Canada.

No plans have been announced of any friendly matches for the team but Nigerians still expect them to put up a sturdy performance against in their opening match in 15 days time.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for a positive outcome.
