The Deputy Governor of Imo State many years effort in grooming youth for leadership has been receiving acknowledgements from the spectrum of Nigerian youths among one of such groups is the leadership of Nigerian Youth Parliament, who paid him a courtesy visit to his official residence yesterday.
Speaking on the purpose of their visit to the Deputy Governor, the Speaker of Nigerian Youth Parliament, Comrade Ayodele Obeh said they have been nursing the ambition of coming to identify with him for his unwavering positive attitude towards grooming the youths with a view to getting ready for leadership.
He expressed consternation over his open door policy and accessibility, which he confirmed by his reception to them even as he was not pre-informed about their coming. ”
He revealed that it was the resolution of the youth parliamentary body to identify and to work with any youth friendly leader let alone a youthful leader like Prince Madumere who has demonstrated his love for Nigeria by investing in the youth against the future.
Rt. Hon. Ayodele who came in company of Imo speaker, Hon Lilian Onyewuchi and others, emphasised the young legislative body’s strong belief in education for all Nigerians, which he described as the greatest empowerment bequeathable to any youth. He therefore commended Governor Okorocha led administration for its holistic free education policy at all levels, one of the core factors considerable before working with any group.
He aslo said the parliament believes in President Buhari’s anti corruption crusade, and issues he described as a scourge capable of bringing any country to it knees.
Narrating how Nigerian Youth parliament came into existence, he said it was an offshoot of United resolution and that its first session was inaugurated by then President Umaru Yar’Adua who was represented by represented by the Honourable Minister for Youth Development, Senator Akinlabi Olusunkanmi on the floor of the National Assembly.
“The major objective of the body is to serve as a voice to the Youths and to train themselves, getting ready for leadership so as to avoid accidental leadership, an experience that has rather brought about retrogression in most societies. He attributed N-Power as a brainchild of Nigerian Youth Parliament”; he submitted.
He therefore applauded Prince Madumere for his effort in youth development encouraging him never to stand down since, which he described as patriotic and progressive spirit.
Responding, Prince Madumere thanked the leadership of the group for finding time to pay him a courtesy call. He emphatically said that future of Nigeria lies with the youth.
Speaking statistically, Prince Madumere opined that the largest demographics of Nigeria’s population of about 180 million are the youths. he therefore queried what becomes the future of Nigeria is the segment of the population that constitute over 60% are mismanaged. “This will breed frustration, retrogression, crass leadership problem and above all guaranteeing the security of life and property of the populace will be unattainable:” he postulated.
Prince Madumere attributed the dicey situation lack of programmes for youth could cause to Owelle Rochas Okorocha led administration to declare free education at all levels to enable even youths from very poor homes to acquire qualitative education.
Speaking further, he said it was also in response to such avoidable future situation that the administration also came up with Youth millionaires Club where youths are groomed as entrepreneurs.
He commended the Speaker of Nigerian Youth Parliament, assuring him of the state Government readiness to work with them whenever they are called upon.
