Two biological brothers – Auwal Adamu, 26, and Rabiu Adamu, 27 – were on Wednesday arraigned before a Kano Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly strangling their 55-year-old father.
The defendants, who hail from the Sumaila Local Government Area of Kano State, are facing two counts of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide, contrary to Section 97 and 221 of the Penal Code.
The prosecutor, Inspector Pogu Lale, told the court that a Good Samaritan reported the case to the Sumaila Police Division on September 30, 2017.
Lale said, “On September 24, at about 6pm, the defendants conspired with six other siblings, now at large, and strangled their biological father, identified as Adamu Gamji, 55.”
The IPO explained that the defendants suspected that their father was responsible for the death of three members of the family, as well the ailment of their brother, one Sale Adamu.
The defendants pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.
The Chief Magistrate, Muhammad Jibril, ordered that the defendants be remanded in custody and adjourned the case till November 16, 2017.
