Before the Champions League match, Edinson Cavani has appeared to reopen his feud with his South American strike partner Neymar.
A rift was seen on the field between PSG’s South American strikers during the Ligue 1 match v Lyon, as Cavani shoved Neymar away from a penalty. Cavani then missed the spot kick.
Since, stories have emerged about the fallout between the players in the dressing room.
Moreover, Neymar appeared to assume PSG’s penalty duties as he scored a spot-kick against Bordeaux.
‘We don’t need to be friends’
Edinson Cavani has sat down for an interview with France’s SFR Sport, and the centre-forward has made some eye-catching remarks about Neymar. Cavani said:
The penalty case, that’s in the past. These are things that happen in football.
We must find the solution together and function as a team. We need to be a competitive team, but we do not need to be friends. You have to be professional, and afterwards everyone has their own life.
Cavani also baulked at the claim he’s been removed from PSG penalty duty:
This is up to the coach to decide. What’s is best for the team?
I think the person in charge will find the solution. When he makes the decision, it will be like that.
