The Senator representing Abia Central in the Senate, Senator Theodore Orji, has disassociated himself from a fake agricultural loan project purported to be floated by his constituency office.
The federal lawmaker enjoined his constituents in Abia Central senatorial district of Abia State and the general public not to further associate his office with the scam being perpetrated by faceless persons on the social media.
A terse statement issued by the Media Adviser and Legislative Aide to Senator Orji, Chief Eddie Onuzuruike, on Monday, warned that anyone dealing with the scammers after this disclaimer is only doing so at his or her risk.
“Our attention has been drawn to false postings on the Facebook about an Agric Loan project floated by Senator T. A. Orji, Ochendo. The public is hereby warned that there is no such project and so advised to disassociate Senator Orji and his office with such a scam.
“Our projects like the Senator T A Orji annual Scholarship scheme for tertiary institutions, are coordinated from the constituency office at No. 32 Ojike Street, Umuahia Abia State and supervised by a well constituted body of stakeholders drawn from the six local government areas of Umuahia North and South, Ikwuano, Osisioma Isiala Ngwa North and South that make up the Abia Central Senatorial District. Notices of our projects are well publicized on newspapers, TV, and radio,” he said.
Onuzuruike revealed that a near-victim of the scam had alerted Senator Orjii when he sent a text message to the lawmaker in order to confirm the authenticity of the agric loan scheme.
“Anybody participating in the purported Agric Loan is doing so at his or her own risk. Scammers are warned to desist from such as it is a criminal offence punishable by laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he added.
