Kelechi Iheanacho continued his bright moments in Manchester City colour as he scored a goal and assisted one in Manchester City’s defeat of Roma.
Raheem Sterling scored three minutes into his Manchester City debut while Joe Hart was the hero as Manuel Pellegrini’s side beat Roma 5-4 on penalties in their International Champions Cup clash in Melbourne.
Sterling, 20, slipped over with his first touch of the ball in a City shirt, but made amends after just 137 seconds as he burst onto a through-ball from Kelechi Iheanacho to slot coolly past Roma goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis.
The Serie A side equalised soon afterwards, with Miralem Pjanic unleashing a drive to beat Willy Caballero from 25 yards.
Iheanacho continued his impressive display with a fine finish following a defensive error after 51 minutes, but Adem Ljajic’s free kick four minutes from time sent the game to penalties.
Aleksandar Kolarov skied his penalty while Joe Hart — who was beat by Andrea Pirl’s “Panenka” penalty chip at Euro 2012 — suffered the same fate against Ljajic.
But Hart then stepped up to score City’s fifth spot kick and saved Seydou Doumbia’s attempted “Panenka” to force the shootout to sudden death, and James Horsfield netted before Hart parried Seydou Keita’s weak attempt to win the match.
