A teenager has caused a stir by taking his 93-year-old great-grandma to his school prom.
Drew Holm was going to skip the big night because he didn’t have a date, but his elderly relative stepped in to accept his invitation.
After receiving special permission from his school in Indiana, USA, as Katie Keith is 72 years above the age limit of dates, the duo joined classmates and danced the night away.
Drew told Wave 3 News: said: “She (Katie) asked me if I was going to prom and I said no.
“She’s like, ‘Why not?’ and I was like, ‘I don’t have anyone to take and I could care less about it.'”
Katie, jokingly told her great grandson that she had a dress and would accompany him, but Drew took her offer seriously and formally asked her to attend, sending an invitation to her house.
Drew added: “She was like, ‘No, go find someone prettier.’ I was like, ‘No, I can’t do that. You’re the prettiest woman.'”
Causing Stir: Drew Holm asked his great gran to his prom
And it wasn’t the first school prom Katie has attended – last going to the prom in 1940.
She said: “I went to mine back in 1940. Then the dance was a waltz and the dress was less elaborate.
“Nobody had formals. We all just went in our going-to-church dresses and what we had.”
School Dance: The big event took place at Crothersville Junior-Senior High
Speaking about Friday’s junior prom at Crothersville Junior-Senior High, she added: “Everybody got up, you know, and they were doing this shuffle thing.
“Drew said to me, ‘Let’s dance, grandma. Will you dance?’ I said, ‘Sure.’ So him and I got out there and shuffled right along with them.”
After inviting his great grandmother to the prom, he managed to bag a date of his own, who he met up with after Katie went home at 9.30pm.
