Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano has decorated five new officers promoted to different ranks in the Anambra State Police Command.
Decorating the jubilant officers with the emblems of their new ranks at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, Governor Obiano reminded them that their promotion was a reward for hard-work and urged them not to relent in their commitment to duty as Anambra had always been a great place to prove oneself and earn the respect of one’s colleagues and eventually promotion and other rewards.
The governor also charged the officers and men of the state Police Command to always put the collective interest of the people over and above every other consideration in carrying out their duties, assuring them that his administration would continue to give them the necessary support, incentives and motivation that would enable them excel on their duty. He however warned that any errant police officer who abuses his or her position would be made to face the wrath of the law.
Governor Obiano further recalled that his administration had provided over 100 state-of-the-art patrol vans to boost the effectiveness of the Anambra State Police Command and expressed satisfaction with the high rate of success recorded by the officers and men of Operation Kpochapu whom he observed had cleansed the state of all crimes and criminality.
Governor Obiano assured the officers and men of the state police command that his administration had resolved to build 21 residential blocks to serve as a more conducive living quarters to them and urged them to brace up for the challenge of effective policing that would keep Anambra State crime-free all through the Yuletide Season and beyond.
Governor Obiano also used the opportunity to present twenty horses to the Command saying that the horses would further enhance the effectiveness of the Mounted Troop Unit during events that require some measure of crowd control.
Receiving the horses, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hassan Karma thanked Governor Obiano for his unflinching support and numerous interventions and assured him that the officers and men of the command would continue to work hard to justify his confidence and meet the expectations of the people.
Mr. Karma reiterated the determination of his command to ensure that Ndi Anambra would have a memorable and crime-free Christmas and New Year, pointing out that elaborate plans had been made to ensure effective crime prevention and control.
The Police Commissioner also used the opportunity to remind the people of the ban on the use of firecrackers, bangers and any other form of explosives during the festive period.
He explained that the ban would help his men to keep track on criminal elements who might want to use the sound of explosives as a cover to strike at their victims and warned that anyone caught selling and detonating explosives in the state during the period would be made to feel the full weight of the law.
