*FG orders US to stop training of Nigeria’s battalions
Nigeria and the United States are headed into a diplomatic row over the Boko Haram insurgency, with the Federal Government oirdering the US yesterday to stop the training of her army.
The U.S. Embassy said on Monday Nigeria has asked the US to stop training a battalion of Nigerian soldiers, the latest sign of troubled relations between the two countries.
An embassy statement Monday said they “regret the termination of this training” to help Nigeria’s army fight an Islamic uprising.
Nigeria has accused the United States of not doing enough to help it confront the Islamic extremist group, Boko Haram. The disagreement apparently revolves around a U.S. refusal to sell Nigeria helicopter gunships.
in her defence, the US laws prohibit the sales of certain lethal weapons to countries whose military are accused of consistent gross human rights violations.
