From Dele Ogunyemi, IbadanThe National Executive Council of Alliance for Democracy (AD) rose from a crucial meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State capital over the weekend raising a fresh alarm over the state of insecurity across the country, especially in the North-east geopolitical zone, saying “the Boko Haram fundamentalist insurgency calls for sober reflection and concerted action by all patriotic stakeholders in the Nigeria project.”
At the meeting presided over by the AD national chairman, Senator Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa, the party emphasized its determination to give President Goodluck Jonathan “unflinching support” in the ongoing fight against insurgency. In a communiqué jointly signed by Akinfenwa and the party’s national secretary, Mr. Rafiu Salau, copies of which were made available to journalists at the end of the meeting, AD specifically enjoined the Federal, State and all other government entities involved in managing the nation’s security to deploy the fullest technological resources of counter terrorism in the defence of the nation. On the 2015 general elections, the AD called on the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega to continue to “run the Commission with the fear of God” to ensure free and fair elections in the country.Specifically, AD urged INEC to ensure that the upcoming Osun State governorship election is conducted with the utmost transparency and efficiency to give it the needed credibility. The NEC meeting, while expressing implicit confidence in the leadership of Senator Akinfenwa, also resolved that all hands within the party would henceforth be on deck to restore the Alliance for Democracy to its former glory.
