Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has been described as a gender friendly leader following the appointment of many women into many sensitive positions in the state.
A group operating under the aegis of Development Initiative for African Women (DIFAW) said so while on a solidarity visit to Government house Owerri. Specifically this group expressed appreciation over the nomination of Dr. Chidinma Uwajumogu as delegate to the National Conference by Governor Okorocha and called on other states of the federation to emulate him.
Speaking on behalf of the women, the state Director of DIFAW, Mrs. Helen Ihuaku Emezi popularly known as ‘Pretty’ said that the selection of a woman for such national task has shown the Governor’s appreciation of the unique contributions of womanhood in the society and described the choice of Dr. Uwajumogu as putting a square peg in a square hole.
According to the women, Dr. Uwajumogu champions the building of network of support, empowerment as well as positioning them with untapped potentials in ensuring the actualization of their dreams and expressed no doubt that she would represent them creditably well.
Addressing the women on behalf of the state government, the Chief of Staff and Commissioner for Special Duties, Sir Jude Ejiogu described their visit as commendable and further disclosed that the state government would not leave any stone unturned in the selection of Imo women to assist in the governance of the state even as he commended the nomination of Dr. Uwajumogu as a national delegate for CONFAB.
Sir Ejiogu while enjoining them to continue to reciprocate the gesture by registering with the All Progressives Congress (APC) as part of their contribution for the success of the rescue mission programmes of Governor Okorocha assuring them of the present government’s determination not to allow women to be relegated to the background
