The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Wednesday said the nation’s external reserves stood at 46.89 billion dollars on August 26.
According to the apex bank’s Website, out of the sum 45.67 billion dollars was in liquid form, while 1.22 billion dollar was “blocked”.
The CBN said the figure represented a decrease of 16.34 million dollars from the 46.91 billion dollars recorded on August 23.
The foreign reserves stood at 44.34 billion dollars on January 2.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, had said in 2012 that the government was working towards raising the external reserves to 50 billion dollars.
