CSEAN inducts Lagos branch, gets 7-man Exco

The Cyber Security Experts Association of Nigeria (CSEAN) has inducted the Lagos branch of the group, just as they elected a 7-man executive committee.
This is coming as CSEAN President, Mr. Oluremi Afon, has tasked members to be innovative in order to grow the association and the country at large.
Mr. Afon made this call at the induction ceremony of the Lagos State branch in Ikeja on Friday, and said CSEAN is ready to support any innovative idea that is in tandem with the association’s goals, stressing that the vision of the group is to see that CSEAN is launched in the 36 states of the Federation in no distant time.
“Although CSEAN is only about two years, it is doing a lot in solving the cyber security challenges of the country including the launch of Stop, Think and Connect (STC) project, which aims to make the web a safer place,” CSEAN president said.
Intending members, Mr. Afon said, are meant to undergo rigorous admission screening and assessment processes including reference, signing of code of conduct and most importantly having in-depth professional knowledge of cyber security.
He equally said that any member caught contravening cyber security laws will be handed over to the police for appropriate sanctions as the association is collaborating with security agencies and delisted too.
The induction which had other highlights including the launch keynote entitled: Advanced Persistent Threats (APT) by a United Kingdom (UK)-based ethical hacker, Mr. Peter Chukwuenweniwe, took a critical look at cyber security and measures that could be implemented to keep cyber space crime-free and checkmate the activities of hackers, witnessed the presentation of certificates to the inductees and constitution of Lagos State branch Executive of CSEAN.
The newly constituted Executive Committee for Lagos branch included Adeyemi Ademiluyi as chairman; Olamide Odeneye as vice chairman; Remmy Nweke as Secretary, with Olatunji Matthew Igbalajobi to assist him at the secretariat; Victor Idonor Igbacajobi got the position of Public Relations Officer (PRO), Osagie Ona was named Research and Training Officer, while Kingsley Roberts became the Treasurer/Financial Secretary.
The President emphasised that as leaders they must create time in order to live up to the expectation of their duties, advising them to be transparent.
Recall that CSEAN is a non-profit group of professionals and aspiring professionals in the field of information security in Nigeria and diaspora, championing the cause and awareness of information security best practices, acting as advocate for change to address cybercrime phenomenon through engaging intellectual minds, business and political leaders.
The members also benefit in building and developing professional network, participate in international cyber security events organized by partner associations, professional and educational developmental programmes.
