A Nigerian social media user, Oguji Jeremiah Onyebuchi, has accused operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos State of selling his vehicle after it was recovered from thieves.
Onyebuchi, who uses the handle @Rbrnjerry on X (formerly Twitter), made the allegation in a petition addressed to the Inspector-General of Police. He claimed that his Lexus RX 350 was stolen and later recovered by the Commissioner of Police Crack Squad in Ikeja after he paid ₦400,000 to a tracker agent.
However, he alleged that the vehicle was subsequently sold by police officers despite its recovery.
In a post seen online, Onyebuchi said he had submitted evidence, including videos, conversation records, and details of the officers involved, but had yet to receive any response to his petition. He called for public attention to the matter, alleging extortion and misconduct by the police.
Reacting to the development, the police’s New Media unit, led by Chief Superintendent of Police Aliyu Giwa, tagged the Lagos Complaint Unit to investigate the case.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Abimbola Adebisi, said she had reached out to the complainant via X and was awaiting his response.
