Man in dock for stealing blocks

A 49-year-old Omotayo Ayaji was on Thursday docked before a Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, for allegedly stealing 672 pieces of building blocks valued at N87,630.

Ayaji, whose address was not stated is facing a three-count charge of stealing, breach of peace by constructing soak away on a land without the owner’s permission.

The Prosecutor, ASP. Akpan Nkem, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Sept. 23 at 4.00p.m at the Royal Estate, Morogbo area of Lagos.

Nkem also told the court that the defendant stole 672 pieces of building blocks, property of Mrs Adeosun Olabode, the complainant.

“Ayaji entered the land of the complainant and constructed a soak away without her permission.

“The defendant also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of public peace,” he told the court.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 287, 53 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, granted the defendant bail of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Adekomaiya adjourned the case until Nov. 19 for mention. (NAN)
