The People of Udi Town in the Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, have denied media reports claiming that they have endorsed Senator Ike Ekweremadu for another term in the Senate.

A statement signed the President General of the Udi Town Union, Mr Emma Eneoli said that there was no truth whatsoever in the report as Udi people never endorsed Senator Ekweremadu and neither had the matter ever been contemplated nor discussed by the community.

Mr Eneoli said that the claim was the handiwork of mischief makers whose intention was to embarrass their son, Governor Sullivan Chime by publishing false and malicious stories about his kinsmen.

He added that Udi people were proud of and stood solidly behind Governor Chime and had long endorsed his senatorial ambitions.
Eneoli said,”That report was a clear case of mischief, I am the
President General of Udi Town Union and we never at any time or place
endorsed Senator Ekweremadu for Senate, we have discussed or
contemplated anything like that. He (Ekweremadu) came to Udi for a
burial and that was all, it was a private visit. How that visit turned
into an endorsement beats one’s imagination. Let no one be fooled, Udi
is solidly behind Governor Chime not only because he is our brother
but because of his exceptional performance in office as governor, we
will never abandon him”.

While urging the general public to discountenance the report, Mr Eneoli enjoined politicians in the state to desist from spreading falsehood in order to gain political sympathy.

He added that any politician who indulges in such acts cannot claim to have the interests of the people at heart.
