Inspector General of Police, Mr Abubakar Mohammed on Thursday warned policemen in the country on their behaviour as officers of the law to uphold the right attitude at all times or get booted out of the force just as the officer that was dismissed for asking a motorist for bribe.
IGP Abubakar, disclosed this reacting to question on the recent dismissal of a police sergeant, Chris Omeleze, caught on camera soliciting bribe of N25,000 from a motorist over traffic offence in Lagos.
He defended the dismissal of the police sergeant, insisting it was not harsh. He also added that the police would ready to prosecute the officer as long as the man he allegedly extorted was ready to testify.
The police boss highlighted that the sacking of the office is serving as a warning to other officers of the force, and that the search light has been beamed on them to be of good behaviour or face the consequences.
While on a sallah homage visit to the president at the villa, the police boss asserted that he will not run a corrupt police service insisting that he will charge the officer to court if the man who made the report on you-tube comes with more evidence against the sacked police officer.
He said what is happening in the police force now is a revolution that will not stop until the force witnesses a turnaround for good.
Meanwhile, the Police Boss has asked Nigerians not to entertain any fear but go about their legitimate businesses as adequate measures have been put in place to ensure their security of lives and properties during the festivity period.
Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba who made this known to Channels Television in a chat, added that the IGP has ordered all zonal commands to ensure that every nook and cranny around the nation are properly and adequately secured.
Mba said security reports from across the country indicate that celebration has so far been hitch free and the security agencies are hopeful that it will remain the same throughout the holidays.
